Brother Knights,

Our Installation of Officers ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 6th, at St. Mary’s after the 5:00pm mass.
Fr. Cyril has invited us to have a reception in the St. Mary’s church hall after the ceremony. Clif Cooley has
volunteered to organize the reception. The ceremony and reception will be open to friends and family. He and Sharon
have requested the following:

Last names beginning with Please Bring
               A to D Meat dish
               E to K Appetizer
               L to Q Dessert

Please contact Clif if you can volunteer to help at this event.
We are looking for someone to coordinate the tootsie roll drive. Right now, it looks like we’ll be selling
on one of the first two weekends in October. Please contact me if you are willing to perform this service.
Our next business meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 18th at the parish hall meeting room. As the new
Grand Knight, I’d love to see you there. Please plan to attend.

Welcome to Spellman Council #6107, Knights of Columbus. The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal order of Catholic men founded by Father Michael J. McGivney. From its humble beginnings on October 2, 1881, with a handful of men in the basement of St. Mary Church, New Haven, Connecticut, the K of C has grown to become a worldwide organization based on four principles: Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.

Francis Cardinal Spellman Council #6107 of Colchester, Connecticut, was chartered on September 15, 1968, by the Supreme Council, Knights of Columbus, to a group of 48 men from St. Andrew Church and St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, Colchester, Connecticut. Our Charter Grand Knight was Edward Kocan and our Charter Chaplain was Rev. Peter Ohirko. Spellman Council meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM in the St. Andrew Parish Center. Brothers in Action

On the sunny Saturday morning of April 21st, several Brother Knights got together to work at the St. Andrew’s Cemetery. The cleanup was headed up by Brother Ralph Gimbut, St. Andrew’s Cemetarian. It was a great day to pick up branches, rake leaves and remove winter’s trash. Helpers who showed up included PGK’s Tom Moreno and Vin Marceno along with FS Terry Ryan and his son Joe with two confirmation candidates earning service hours.

On May 20th the Knights will be providing dinner consisting of hot dogs and hamburgers for the parish youth and their moms for a Life Teen evening devoted to teens' relationship with their mothers and to our Blessed Mother Mary.

Brothers John Bear and Pete Reguin have done everything in their power to keep Father Cyril in the lawn mowing business at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church. Fr, Cyril needs a new tractor to mow the “back 40”. Brother Bear has lent his backup Craftsman to Fr. Cyril for a couple of weeks but if anyone has a tractor to donate to Fr. Cyril, please notify John ASAP.

Also, the following Brother Knights have just returned from a fantastic ACTS Retreat weekend held in April at Camp Wightman in N. Stonington. Among the retreatants were Brothers Dan Leone, Pete Reguin, Dan Utz and Rick Gortler.

Several books were donated by the KofC to Cragin Library with the KofC banner in the front covers. We received a very nice letter of Thanks from the Head Librarian that will be read at the next business meeting.

Do you have a good Idea for our Council?

The Officers want this Council to be the best it can be. We are looking for some fresh ideas to attract and keep members coming regularly to our monthly business and social meetings. What would you like to see happen at these meetings? What would it take for you to come and join us once a month for an evening of fellowship with your brother Knights? If you want something to change then we need your input
